Another archetypal song, this time the assignment was to write from the Lover archetype, and the song wrote itself. When songs write themselves, they often insist on going where I don’t want them to go. In this one the chorus is a very different feel from the verse, which really bugged me, I didn’t think it would work, but the song seemed to want it that way. Once again, the Nashville musicians made it work somehow, in fact, I think the contrast between the verse and chorus is refreshing. I also like singing in that low register, men don’t sing that low in pop songs these days usually. I say, bring back the male voice.
