Richard Franklin Morse: Music & Lyrics

Summer Girl

(Richard Franklin Morse)
January 1, 2006
music and lyrics by Richard Franklin Morse
This one wrote itself in a sensory deprivation tank, where you float in salt water in isolation, unable to see or hear anything. I got out of the tank and wrote it down, didn’t change a thing. Yet another set of chord changes my conscious mind would never have thought of. My Summer Girl is married now, she just emailed me her wedding photos, she looks great in white. It was a beautiful summer with her.
Summer Girl

I hear your voice
I see your face
The memory of the summer love I can’t erase
I feel your touch
Upon my skin
I just can’t bear the thought you’ll never come again

Where, where is my Summer Girl
Is she in some other world
In someone else’s arms
Bring my lover back to me
Bring summer back and free
Me from the winter in my heart

We were so close
Or so it seemed
But then she vanished like a ghost inside a dream
A falling leaf
A closing door
A distant voice that keeps repeating ‘Nevermore’

Where, where is my Summer Girl
Is she in some other world
In someone else’s arms
Bring my lover back to me
Bring summer back and free
Me from the winter in my heart
