The chorus for this song had been in my head for 20 years, but I had only a vague idea for a verse, the melody was almost the same as the chorus. My brother Neal came up with the melody we ended up using in the verse, different enough from the chorus that it worked. I also had a half-written song called ‘I Was Your Dream’, inspired by the ‘I was your idea’ TV commercial. The lyric went, in part, ‘I was your dream/That had to wait/And I’ve come back to tell you that it’s not too late.’ I grafted this lyric onto the 20 year old chorus and was thrilled with the result, also with the complicated rhyme scheme that fell easily into place. This song is meant to be a 3 minute self-hypnosis piece, using relaxing music, soothing tone of voice, and little NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) tricks such as asking the classic question ‘What would you do if you knew you couldn’t lose?’ Well, what would you do?
